Wellness Interview with Nutra Organics

We sit down with Jemma Quinlan from Nutra Organics and talk all things wellness, Nutra marketing and her favourite products from the brand.

Hi Jemma! What is your role at Nutra Organics?

Hello! Thanks for having me here. I’m the Marketing Manager at Nutra Organics.

How has the wellness space evolved since your time there?

Dramatically.

I’ve been with Nutra Organics for 5 years and in the wellness industry for 7 years. Back then, health foods like collagen and bone broth were only just starting to make an appearance and most people had no idea what they were about. Boiled bones certainly wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Self care was also a pretty new concept.

Fast forward to today in our post-pandemic world and we can see that health and wellbeing has never been more important. There has been a global lifestyle shift towards holistic self care and proactively giving your body the nutrients it needs to both survive and thrive - rather than simply popping some vitamins every now and then. Now, bone broth is a pantry staple and it’s totally normal to drink it on its own or add it into any cooking - even desserts for some adventurous folk (I never saw that coming!).

Collagen is also a non-negotiable for many people now. Our Collagen Beauty has earned cult status and sells every 2 minutes thanks to the incredible results it delivers for skin, hair, nails and gut health.

What is special about Nutra Organics compared to other brands out there?

Where to begin! It really is a special brand in every way, so this is my best attempt to keep it brief.

  1. Product quality, integrity & results. We formulate our products in house with a team of naturopaths, nutritionists and food technologists. They hand pick the absolute best quality & research backed ingredients from suppliers themselves - so we have full visibility on our supply chain. I can’t speak highly enough about the care and integrity that goes into the Nutra Organics formulations, which over deliver when it comes to results for our customers.

  2. Sustainability. A few years ago we ditched single use plastics and transitioned our entire range into sustainable plastic-free canisters & home compostable bar wrappers & sachets. The company is making every effort to make the most sustainable choices.

  3. Authenticity. Many wellness brands are unrelatable and portray wellbeing in an elitist way. Nutra Organics is refreshingly raw and real. We celebrate real bodies and real skin, and don’t retouch any of our images.

  4. Giving back. We give back in very intentional & purposeful ways. We’re not about virtue signalling. I’m really proud of Nutra’s recent efforts with the Northern Rivers flooding disaster. The whole team got their hands dirty to help with the community clean up during paid work hours, and the company donated 50 new fridges + grocery vouchers directly to local families who lost everything.

  5. Delicious content. If you follow us on the ‘gram, you know what I’m talking about.

Tell us about your career journey to date? Did you always want to pursue this line of work?

No, not quite. Half way through studying business & communications, I discovered my passion for health and was really tempted to ditch marketing and study nutrition instead. Luckily, both worlds collided for me when I landed a marketing job in a health food business.

It wasn’t until I started working for Nutra Organics that I really found my groove. When you work for a great business with amazing branding and amazing products that genuinely make a difference - marketing is a whole lot of fun!

How has your role challenged you over the years?

I started in 2017 as the Digital Marketing Coordinator. Nutra was still a small business, so it was only myself and our Creative Director in the marketing team.

Being very ambitious (and time poor!) I did literally everything at the start with zero agency support: all copywriting, ecommerce management, email marketing, digital advertising, community engagement, built our influencer program from scratch, PR… the list goes on.

Now - thank goodness - we have a team of 11 in house for marketing and creative. Plus kafandco came along and saved my life 12 months ago when Kate took over managing our Facebook advertising.

These days, my role is very different. I have the privilege of helping to lead our incredible marketing team, and I am much more focused on campaign planning, new product strategy and advertising.

Talk us through your typical day?

Gosh I don’t think two days ever look the same, but these are the most common things you’ll find me doing.

Start the day with a giant coffee. Catch up with the marketing team. Go for a morning wellness walk around the block. Work on briefs for upcoming campaigns or new products. Dinner leftovers for lunch (best busy life hack: cook twice as much for dinner and you’ll never have to make lunch again). Catch up on advertising results and work with Kate on optimisations. Walk the dog or go rollerskating when I get home. Then it’s dinner + Netflix (currently rewatching The Office).

Do you manage to maintain work/life balance?

I try my best. My weekends are sacred so I never work on weekends. But being part of a rapidly growing business can often mean I choose to go the extra mile to get things done during the week.

My little hack is setting challenges to make sure I’m dedicating personal time to other things during the week too. I love achieving. So having things like 30 day challenges really helps me to prioritise things that fill my cup.

What’s been the best thing that’s happened to you since starting your career?

I’ve been pretty fortunate to do a bit of traveling (except through COVID) with my job - including to New Zealand and California. So that’s a big highlight.

I also can’t go past all the amazing people and great friends I’ve made along the way too. People are such an important part of job satisfaction.

Which Nutra Organic products do you take and why?

I’m a full blown Nutra-holic and use just about everything, but these are my favourites:

- Thriving Protein in Strawberries & Cream for ‘breakfast’. I’m not big on breakfast because I’m never hungry until about 10am. Thriving Protein stupidly delicious and is a nutrient big hitter: protein, healthy carbs, pre & probiotics and 17 vitamins and minerals from wholefoods (no synthetics).

- Super Greens + Reds together with Collagen Beauty in the Wildflower flavour. Another heavy hitter nutrient concoction, and a delicious low sugar way to get in both greens and collagen. It makes me feel amazing, and I swear by Collagen Beauty for skin and hair.

- Chicken Bone Broth in the Miso Ramen flavour. It’s so delicious on its own, and I use it in a lot of cooking.
